The differentiator

Send a cut list. Sheets arrive sized for the build, not for the truck.

The panel saw is the reason this category exists at NWBS. Cabinet shops, finish carpenters, and remodel crews send dimensioned cut lists with the order; the saw runs the program before the truck loads. Sheets stack on the trailer already sized for the kitchen, the wall, the casework run — nothing to break down on site, nothing to dispose of, nothing to waste.

How it works
Send the cut list with your order — spreadsheet, PDF, or a marked-up plan. The shop runs the panel saw against your dimensions before kitting and loading. Pieces are labeled to your part numbers; offcuts can be returned with the load or recycled at the shop.
Best for
Cabinet shops, casework, custom built-ins, repeat panel patterns
Adds
~1 day to the lead time on a typical sheet order
Service — Panel saw at the NWBS shop
What it saves on the job
A two-person crew breaking down a stack of full sheets on site eats half a day, plus a table saw, plus the dust. Pre-cut sheets unload, get carried in, and install. The crew runs the build, not the breakdown.
Time
~Half a day saved on a typical kitchen casework run
Site
No on-site cutting, no offcut piles, no dust cleanup
Outcome — Crew time back on the build

By sheet type

Six sheet families, each with a different spec decision.

Most sheet orders pull from two or three families at once — hardwood plywood for the visible casework, MDF or particleboard for the interior boxes, melamine for the shelving. The rep helps spec the right combination, then runs the cut list across all of it as one job.

Hardwood & softwood.
The structural and visible-grain panels
Hardwood plywood
Birch, oak, maple, cherry, walnut veneers in cabinet and furniture grades. Veneer core, MDF core, or combination cores depending on the build. The most-quoted sheet on a casework takeoff.

Softwood plywood
Fir, pine, and CDX plywood for structural and utility applications — sheathing, subfloor, shop fixtures, and wherever the panel doesn’t need a finish-grade face.

The cabinet-box and shelving substrates
MDF & particleboard
Standard MDF for paint-grade millwork and door cores. Particleboard substrates for cabinet boxes. MR-MDF (moisture-resistant) where humidity matters — baths, laundry, mudrooms.

Melamine & laminate panels
Pre-finished panels in white, neutrals, and wood-grain prints — for cabinet boxes, shelving, and closet systems where the substrate is the finish. No paint, no stain, no surface prep.

Specialty & moisture-resistant.
The panels that solve a specific problem
Specialty panels
Baltic birch (the multi-ply favorite for jigs and drawer boxes), ApplePly (high-quality alder face on a hardwood core), bending plywood for curved work, and other specialty stock. Mostly to-order; spec early.
Specialty 1–2wBending ply to order
Moisture-resistant
Marine-grade plywood for boats, docks, and exterior built-ins. MR-MDF for wet rooms. Treated panels for wherever the build sees water — the spec that keeps a box from delaminating in year three.

The spec ladder

Three working tiers, shaped by what the panel has to do.

Most sheet decisions come down to one question: what does the face have to look like, and what does the substrate have to survive? Utility builds run softwood ply and standard MDF. Cabinet shops run hardwood ply with veneer or MDF cores. Architectural casework leans on Baltic birch, ApplePly, and figured veneers. Mixing tiers across a single order is the norm.

Tier 1Utility

Sheet lead times

Three planning bands, from the cut list to the truck.

Stock sheets in standard sizes pick up the same day or roll on the next delivery run. Adding a panel-saw cut list usually adds about a day — the saw runs the program and pieces are kitted before the truck loads. Specialty species, oversize panels, and matched-grain runs sit in the back band; spec early.

What pushes a job up the band: figured veneers (rift-cut, quartersawn, walnut burl), oversized panels (4×10, 5×5), bending plywood, marine-grade in non-standard thicknesses, and matched-grain runs across multiple sheets. Bringing a sample of an existing finish helps the rep order the veneer in lockstep.

How to spec sheets

Three ways to start a sheet order, pick whichever matches what you have.

01

Send a cut list

Spreadsheet, PDF, or marked-up plan with dimensioned pieces and quantities. We line-item the order back: sheet type, grade, count, and lead time per line, plus the panel-saw cuts labeled to your part numbers. The standard cabinet-shop workflow.

Email cut list · quote returned line-by-line
02

Bring a sample

For matching an existing finish or species. Bring a piece of the existing panel, a finished sample, or a photo with a measurement. The rep matches what we stock or specs the closest order-in option.

Walk in · Mon – Fri 7a – 4p
03

Walk the showroom with elevations

For architectural casework and custom built-ins. Bring the elevation; walk veneer samples and core options with the rep. Leave with a tier-appropriate spec, sheet sizes, and a cut-list workflow agreed for the build.

By appointment · ~45 minutes
Across the program
The same six categories, the same reps, one delivery — whatever the schedule needs.
Have a cut list? Let’s price it.

Send a cut list, a sample, or a set of elevations — we’ll price it line by line.

Sheets stocked, sheets ordered, sheets cut to your dimensions — quoted as a single load with one lead time. Cut pieces labeled to your part numbers and kitted with the rest of the order before the truck leaves the yard.
